Consistency is Key!
Every poorly designed programme will yield some form of results if it is followed consistently.
Consistency is the difference between success and failure.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, so we need to make sure that we are following the correct plan, but that is for another post. First we need to make sure we are consistent in our endeavours.
Remember, the only bad workout is a workout that never happened!
Consistency is the quality of always behaving or performing in a similar way. Obviously our goal with consistency is to always be committed to our workouts and our results.
Training once or twice a week won’t cut it, but rather consistently week in and week out, tirelessly without skipping or missing workouts is what we want to be doing!
That’s great, we get that consistency is extremely important, but how can we be consistent?

How To Be Consistent
-
Start Slowly
Starting slowly is key to being consistent. There is no use in diving straight into something the level you wish to be. Your body needs time to adapt. Starting slowly and gradually getting to the place you want to be is the best way forward. Once you have worked your way to the place you want to be, you should already have built in the habit and being consistent from there will be a lot easier. -
Stop Relying on Motivation
Motivation is great, we all love it and the feeling it gives us, but it does not last. You need to make the decision to remain consistent no matter how you feel! We are all human and we have our ups and downs, but our workouts need to be consistent. Make the decision to stay consistent and to chase your goals regardless of how you may be feeling. -
Be Accountable
Being accountable to someone makes us more committed as we never like to disappoint. Find a training partner with similar goals and keep each other accountable.
-
Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance
Prepare for your workouts. Plan what you are going to eat, on which day you will be training what. Don’t leave it up to the day, because then you are going to make a decision based on feelings and not on your goals. Create an easy to follow plan that will be fun to follow. -
Create Short-Term Goals
A big goal can be daunting and intimidating and seem impossible to accomplish, so break it up into smaller goals with milestones that can be celebrated. Maybe a short-term goal might be eating properly for a week and once that is achieved, set it again for the next week. Slowly but surely these smaller, less impressive goals and milestones will add up and you will find yourself having accomplished your big goals sooner than you expected. -
Set some rules and stick to them
Creating rules and boundaries will help you remain disciplined, consistent and accountable towards your goals. If you set a rule that you can never go 2 days without training and stick to it, it will keep you consistent and on target towards your goals. Structure is a good thing, discipline is also a good thing and makes life easier.
-
Exercise in the morning
Train in the morning before work. You are less tired and don’t have the excuse of having a long day to fall back on. It is a great wake-up and the gym tends to not be as busy. Start your day in the gym and you will be ahead of everyone else, more awake, more alert, feel better, feel stronger as well as having already accomplished something early in the morning. -
Create a consistent sleep pattern
Sleep is proving to be one of the most important aspects in life in terms of health, life expectancy, energy, focus and many more. You need to take your sleep seriously and not abuse your body by neglecting it. Set rules to be in ned and asleep by a certain tie and stick to it! -
Stop making excuses
You need to decide to stop making excuses and going easy on yourself. Only you can make the changes in life that you need to and until you realise that you are solely responsible for your life, you will keep making excuses and blaming others. You can change your life at any time, but it’s you that has to make the change.
If you are serious about being consistent, it all starts with a decision! You can make that decision right now, or you can put it off until later and live the rest of your life not following through with it, the choice is yours!
Training is one of the best ways to remain consistent and disciplined! The best time to start training was last year, the next best time is today! We can help you with that! Come on through to the gym and start training today! You won’t regret it, in-fact, you will love it. 6 months from now when you are relaxing on the beach, you will look back to this decision and be glad you made it!
But you need to make the decision!
